4K is getting ready to set sail for Kindergarten! MCS 4K students learned about the ferry this week. They enjoyed an ice cream treat from Mr. Adam, rode on the ferry, and had a great time creating pirate hats with our high school intern.

What do The Alamo and our school sheep have in common? Wool! Some of our wool from the shearing field trip today will be donated to The Alamo (yes, THE Alamo)) for use in their historic demonstrations! Students also released the 52 rainbow trout we've been raising since January. Big day! Great trip!

🌸 Better Together: May Day Fun! 🌸

Our second graders had some very special guests in the classroom last week! Members of the Sauk Prairie High School Key Club traveled to Merrimac to help our students craft beautiful May Day Baskets.

While the markers and tissue paper were flying, the real magic was seeing our older and younger students working side-by-side. It was a wonderful morning of mentorship, creativity, and community spirit.

🧺 Spreading the Joy

The baskets were a blast to make, but their real purpose is even better! We hope these colorful creations found their way to porches and front doors throughout the community to spread a little extra spring joy beyond our school walls.

A huge thank you to the SPHS Key Club for being such fantastic role models and for helping us celebrate the arrival of May in such a thoughtful way!

🌱 Community Heroes in Action! 🌱
Our Merrimac Community School students took to the streets today to show our village some love for Earth Day! 🌎 From our littlest 5K explorers to our seasoned 5th graders, these eagle-eyed volunteers worked hard to clear litter and keep our community beautiful.

But the green mission didn't end there! Every student headed home with their very own sapling to plant. We’re already looking forward to seeing these trees grow alongside our students. 🌳

As one enthusiastic young friend put it: "I can't wait to go home and bury my tree!"

Check out these proud smiles and hard-working hands in the photos below! 👇
