Before break, students were excited to receive patches and certificates from the #MammothHikeChallenge on the #IceAgeTrail. Grades 1 and 2 completed the 45 mile challenge in October.

The school animals have all returned to the farm for Christmas, but before they left they had some special visitors!
Happy holidays!

Jingle all the way! With festive hats and cheerful carols, students brought smiles and holiday wishes to our community.

Louis the Therapy Dog was a big hit as he visited classrooms today. Students learned how Louis became a therapy dog and brings happiness to people with his visits.

Merrimac is excited to join Snapshot Wisconsin in tracking and identifying wildlife in our school forest and prairie! Students took advantage of the snow cover to see where the most tracks intersect and plan the perfect placement for the camera.

MCS 4K was full of giggles and sugar this week. Students loved making 5 varieties of cookies with the help of volunteers. They also listened to many different versions of the story the Gingerbread Boy. The weather was perfect for sledding after all the cookie baking!

Mother Nature providing recess fun at MCS, day after day!

Our school animals are thankful for pumpkins! We are grateful for the fantastic families, staff, and community that make Merrimac Community School one of a kind! Happy Thanksgiving!

A favorite MCS 4K tradition took place this week...The 4K Feast! Each 4K student brought food to the feast to share. The children served themselves, were allowed to use butter knives to cut, practiced their manners, and loved sitting at our long "family" table.

"Community" service is in our name! Students decorated the village planters for the season! Now, the winter decorations just need a little snow! We love service learning!

Stir it Up Sauk Prairie visited the 4th graders today. They learned about different sources of protein! They got to prep, create, and enjoy breakfast pizza and banana sushi!

Pumpkins, cranberries, and hydroponic lettuce highlight Wisconsin agriculture during cooking time! The sheep and chickens are loving the pumpkins from Buttermilk Barn! Thank you! #AgInTheClassroom

Lions, and tigers, and a bear, oh my! A field trip to the Big Cat Rescue in Rock Springs made for an interesting morning! A stop at Oschner Zoo rounded out our habitat trip on a beautiful fall day!

We are going batty for #InternationalBatWeek in grade 2! Students measured and built six bat houses, learned about the importance of bats in the ecosystem, and read lots of bat books!
❤️🦇 The bat houses will be installed in different places around the school grounds, prairie, and forest to provide habitat for our local flying mammals.

We’re sad to share that Miss Amy has accepted a new position closer to home. She will be greatly missed! If you’re interested in working with the friendliest students and staff around, we’re looking for a new Head Cook at MCS—apply today!

Medical team to third grade... finishing their unit on body systems, third graders scrubbed up and used their learning to make models of organs, perform surgery, and have fun!

A big thank you to Keller's Kornucopia for a fabulous field trip! Kindergarten and second grade enjoyed picking pumpkins from the field, seeing the honeybee hives, and navigating the hay bale maze!

The skeleton crew is ready for Halloween! Fifth graders learned about the skeleton system with a milk jug project!

🎃🍁 Our 5K students at MCS had a “gourd” time celebrating the season with pumpkin pie–scented playdough! The classroom smelled amazing, and the fun was as sweet as pie! 🥧✨ #MCS #FallFun #HandsOnLearning #SPSD

Our K-5 students saw all 15 species of cranes today at the International Crane Foundation. The fantastic tour was a hit as students learned about the amazing conservation efforts locally and around the world!
