Camping is better with friends! MCS 4K students learned about camping this week. The kitchen center was turned into a campground, students roasted pretend s'mores, read good books, and fished for numbered fish. Students really loved actual s'mores and squash pancakes for snack times!
First graders graduated from their first literacy unit today and celebrated by making mini pumpkin pies during cooking time! Congratulations!
Hiking Wednesdays are back! Students are racking up miles for the Mammoth Hike Challenge on the Ice Age National Scenic Trail! Today's hike took us to the highest point in Sauk County at 1593 feet above sea level!

Grades 3-4-5 time traveled back to the Renaissance thanks to A Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians at Circus World on Friday! A bit of Shakespeare, sword play, and jousting! Huzzah!
It was a dino-riffic week in 4K! Students made a number line stegosaurus, read dinosaur books, and did the dino pokey. They also learned the letter Mm and enjoyed doing puzzles.

Yesterday, Paul Larson and former MCS student Clayton (who’s still got skills on the red bars!) came by to plant six beautiful new additions to our pine grove: two Scotch Pines and four White Pines.
The Larson family has supported MCS for years, and we were honored to nominate them for the 2026 WASB Business Honor Roll. Superintendent Wright was on-site to officially present them with the award!
Jenna McCann, fifth-grade teacher and outdoor space steward, will be leading her students in keeping the trees watered as they take root.

We were pleased to host the UW Stevens Point LEAF Forestry Education workshop today! Our trees in the school forest and on the playground were perfect for practicing measurement techniques and activities.

Apples, fall, and farms galore in 4K these past 2 weeks. Students enjoyed homemade applesauce, building with wood cookies, and playing Simon Says with Mr. Jeff. They also had a good time creating pig faces and singing Old McDonald had a kangaroo!
From seeds to snacks! Fourth graders enjoyed a feast of watermelon that began last spring during third grade gardening time. Worth the wait!

Teacher field trip! Three MCS teachers spent the day at Horicon Marsh for a Wings, Wetlands, and Water workshop. Wonderful!
Flashlights ready! Second grade stepped into the school prairie after-dark to finish their unit on insects! This special science experience was exceptional!
Educators from Merrimac and Tower Rock teamed up to bring this unique field trip to students.
We're getting our hands dirty planting native plants in the school forest and prairie! Lots of Wisconsin native grasses and flowers will improve the ecosystem next year! Conservation kids!
Making dilly beans and releasing monarchs for migration! First grade is a busy place.
Students harvested the green beans they planted last spring in kindergarten to make dilly beans! Yum!
In science, they watched the caterpillar eat milkweed, become a chrysalis, and waited for wings. Until today! Time to fly!

MCS 4K students had a fantastic week talking about shapes. They talked about the shapes found on a construction site and were able to hold a brick from the 1850's. Shapes are everywhere!
And they’re off! 👟 The Merrimac Milers held their first practice yesterday, with Coach Bell leading the team through warm-ups.

Our new composting system is worm-tastic! Thank you to a grant from Let's Go Compost, our kindergarten and fifth graders are teaming up with our new worm farm. We are learning about compost and seeing which fruits and veggies the worms like best!
