Welcome to Merrimac Community School’s webpage. MCS is a 4K-5 public elementary school located in the Village of Merrimac. We serve 120+ students living in the Village and Town of Merrimac as well as the surrounding communities of Sauk City, Prairie du Sac, Baraboo and Portage.

Located near Lake Wisconsin and Devil's Lake our exemplary, place-based school provides students with learning opportunities in areas of agriculture and environmental studies. MCS students are engaged in all things Wisconsin - we even have our own barns and farm animals adjacent to our playground! Students support their animal friends each fall with regular chores, feeding and caring for chickens, ducks and sheep.

Emphasizing State of Wisconsin and Sauk Prairie School District standards in literacy, mathematics, social studies and science our certified teaching staff provides additional opportunities for students to engage in experiential learning as they care for the community garden with local Master Gardeners, the animals, the orchard and school forest. Students walk the Ice Age Trail, hike the paths of Devil’s Lake, learning about soils, rocks and water in the surrounding water systems. A very active Home and School Association helps support the mission of the school.
